Monsters University My Scare Pal Sulley Review

Monsters University My Scare Pal Sulley Review

The stars of Monsters University are meant to be scary monsters, terrifying sleeping children. And yet, for the most part, they are also cute and very cuddly. Spin Master’s My Scare Pal stuffed toys are very definitely on the cute side, including My Scare Pal Sulley. Sulley looks great as a slightly more snuggly version of the lumbering blue-with-pink-polka-dots monster from the movies, complete with mouth and eyebrows that move when you squeeze his belly.

My Scare Pal Sulley has three different modes (sleep, scare, and tickle), and over 15 different expressions and sounds to make. Children simply shake him to switch between modes, then squeeze his belly to make him roar, snore, and laugh. You do have to squeeze fairly hard though, which won’t be the easiest for small hands.

Even though Sulley has a large plastic battery and speaker pack in his chest, he’s still quite cuddly and your children will very likely want to snuggle with him in bed. Unfortunately, that’s where parents will realize that My Scare Pal Sulley is guilty of the two worst sins that a noise-making toy can commit.

First, Sulley can’t be turned off, unless you get a screwdriver and remove his batteries. So if your children are cuddling Sulley in their sleep, it doesn’t take much to start him roaring and waking up your child. Or, when you are trying to tidy up after your children have fallen asleep on the couch and you accidentally grab Sulley and set him off and your kids wake up. I can speak to that one personally.

Second, you also can’t adjust the volume. Sulley is a very loud toy, and while the loud monster roars are going to be amusing at first, parents might be hoping for the batteries to run out, especially if you’re on the road or in a small space.

Cute and cuddly and extremely loud!

The GamerPops Recommendation

I’m not sure the Monsters University My Scare Pal Sulley is ever actually going to be scary, but he’s definitely cuddly and chatty. It’s just unfortunate that he wasn’t designed with any volume controls, which could have made him as popular with parents as he should be with children.
