I grew up with the Muppets, and still put The Muppets take Manhattan amongst my favorite movies. But somewhere along the way, the Muppets lost their way, and the movies and relaunched TV show failed to click. But now, there’s hope. Hope that I can introduce my children to Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo and company in a brand new way, as the new Disney-produced The Muppets his theatres this fall. With Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother) scripting and James Bobin (Flight of the Conchords) directing, that’s scratching the sweet spot for me.
The newly released trailer, seen below, is rife with that classic Muppets sense of humor, spoofing lame romantic comedy trailers, and throwing in just enough puppet comedy to whet the appetite.
