Sony is bridging the gap between the PSP and the PS3 with the new line of PSP Remaster titles, which will see top PSP titles brought over to the PS3. These titles will receive new HD graphics, new features, and possibly 3D support, depending on the game, which utilizing Ad-hoc gameplay via an “adhoc party for PlayStation Portable” on Wi-Fi enabled PS3s.

The first title to get the Remaster treatment is Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Ver. from Capcom, which was hugely popular on the PSP in Japan. Which is an appropriate choice, since the program will launch first in Japan, though frankly, it wouldn’t surprise me if never really leaves Japan. Maybe I’m misreading the market, but in North America and Europe, I don’t see a ton of gamers clamouring for up-resed PS3 versions of PSP titles. Are there any games that aren’t quirky JRPG’s that would be remotely interesting ported off the PSP? After all, many of the PSP’s bigger named offerings already exist on the PS3 in better forms.
