PlayStation Plus gets cloud saves

The bad news? PlayStation users can look forward to ANOTHER system update tomorrow, March 10th. The good news? Well, for PlayStation Plus members at least, version 3.60 will add the capability for online storage of game saves, better known as the more trendy sounding term cloud-based game saves.

Users will be able to store up to 150 MB of save data with a maximum of 1000 files. This may not seem like a lot, but game save data itself isn’t usually all that big, so the 150 MB should be more than sufficient. This will be great for backing up your saves offsite for protection from console death, and also will let you play your game saves on any PS3 using your PSN ID. So, I could go over to Greg’s house, bring my PS3 games, and continue playing through my games over there. This is a very handy feature and as a PS+ user I’m looking forward to taking advantage of this. It’s good to see Sony starting to do more value-added things with the Plus service after what can be called a slow start.

For non-Plus members, Sony are saying that there are other minor updates coming, but have offered no details at this time. More should be known tomorrow when the update hits.
