Kinect Pricing Announced, and More
So, despite my speculation to the contrary, Microsoft has announced pricing for Kinect today, among other things, and it turns out that the $150 price point is indeed the way they’re going. For those who already own an Xbox 360, you can pick up the Kinect peripheral, along with Kinect Adventures, for $149.99 in the US.
Also announced is the new replacement for the 360 Arcade system, the Xbox 360 4GB, which features built-in WiFi N and 4GB flash memory. It will be available August 3rd for $199.99 US.
And of course, for those of you who are interested in Kinect, but don’t have a 360 yet, your most inexpensive option will be to hook up the Kinect Holiday Bundle for $299.99 US. This will include the two items above at a $50 savings, which doesn’t sound too bad. My guess is that a large number of folks who would be interested in Kinect-type games won’t need the large storage capacity initially, so the 4GB would be sufficient for game saves. Families who eventually find themselves wanting more space should be able to add on a hard drive later on if they choose.
Finally, pricing was announced for three of the 15 expected launch titles for Kinect. Kinectimals, Kinect Sports, and Kinect Joy Ride will all be available for $49.99 US. This is $10 less than many new titles, but will it be enough to capture the casual market? Greg and I weren’t all that sure about these titles from first impressions, so we’re hoping that these titles will feature enough to justify this price point, especially given the $150 you’ll need just to get Kinect itself. At least Kinect Adventures was included as a pack-in, probably to Greg’s chagrin.
So, what do you think about the official price now? Let us know in the comments section.
