Madden Curse’s Next Victim: Drew Brees?

All signs seem to be pointing to your next Madden coverboy being Super Bowl-winning quarterback Drew Brees, according to an article at Pastapadre. You’ll remember that this year, fans got to vote on who the Madden 11 cover athlete should be. The three choices were Brees, of the New Orleans Saints, Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne, and Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen. All in all, this was pretty much stacked for Brees to win since Wayne, while a top receiver, gets overshadowed by his QB, Peyton Manning, and Jared Allen is, well, Jared Allen, and defensive guys are almost never on the cover anyways.

So, you know what that means. That noise you just heard was thousands of Drew Brees-owning dynasty league fantasy football players (and, really, New Orleans Saints fans as well) screaming in terror, because being a Madden cover athlete is about as sure a bet that a guy is going to get injured this season as any. It’s not called the Madden Curse for nothing, you know. So, congratulations, Drew Brees, on your latest accolade, and I hope all you Saints fans took full advantage and enjoyed your team’s Super Bowl win, because your chances for a repeat just took a severe hit.

I don’t know about you, but as a Reggie Wayne dynasty owner, I’m breathing a big sigh of relief right now.
