On Tap: Week of January 11th

There’s a couple of interesting releases for this week. The most “AAA” of the bunch looks to be Army of Two (uh, Two?): The 40th Day for Xbox 360, PS3, and PSP. Intrigue will be found. People will get shot. Teamwork will ensue. Fists will be bumped. Huzzah! Also of note, and just a touch more appropriate for the family, would be Vancouver 2010 – The Official Video Game of the Olympic Winter Games for Xbox 360 and PS3. No word on the rumoured bug where you can’t win a gold medal when playing as the home country. (This is our year, dammit!)
For those of you keeping track, which is precisely none of you, I finally finished Batman: Arkham Asylum. Great fun was had, I got to Level 8 for Trophies, and the health meter left some nice burn-in on my plasma screen. %&$#. Fortunately, today’s plasmas don’t allow that to be a long-term issue, and after a little football watching last night and today, the circle is gone. Batman: AA will be worse than other games as well, since it’s so dark in general, the big white health meter sticks out quite nicely. Anyways, on to either Uncharted 2, or perhaps Bayonetta if I decide to not be so cheap and actually pick it up. Kinda hard to justify, though, with Uncharted 2 and Asssassin’s Creed 2 sitting on the shelf waiting to be played. And Uncharted 2 just feels right being playing in my GamerPops Burlington office on a 58-inch screen and all.
The Consumer Electronics Show happened in Vegas this week, and the big thing that kept getting talked about was 3D TV. Great. My brand new set is already obsolete because it can’t do 3D. Fortunately, a lot of this stuff is in prototype stage, though word is this technology will be coming very soon. However, I’m not too concerned, since you still have to wear the dorky glasses, but will require a brand new set. (New set AND glasses? Seriously?) Yeah, it’s not taking over any time soon. I’m sure it will revolutionize gaming, just take your time getting here if it’s all the same.
