LEGO Goes MMO With LEGO Universe

If Lego Universe wasn’t on your radar before, the action-packed CES trailer (which we hope to be able to add to our site soon) certainly should have put it there. This game is looking more interesting by the minute, and not just because of the fun screenshots and sweet trailer.
You see, Lego Universe will be an MMO, and one that will be focused at players of all ages, including kids. Some will be skeptical about an MMO focused on kids (Mamajuice’s initial reaction to this news wasn’t positive), especially given the addictive nature of MMOs in particular. According to the game’s website, gameplay will be similar to the Star Wars and Indiana Jones Lego games currently available, and will feature both Player vs. Environment and Player vs. Player options (PvE and PvP for you hardcore MMOers out there).
There’s also a special section with information for parents as well, which outlines what the developers, NetDevil, in conjunction with the folks at LEGO, have planned to address any concerns parents might have. These include plans to protect online interactions from unsavoury types, limit how long kids can play, and other potential concerns. While details are short now, we expect to hear more, including the pricing model (which will be a monthly subscription), as we get closer to launch. We’ll be keeping an eye out for updates and pass them along as they become available.
Developed by The LEGO Group and NetDevil, LEGO Universe will bring the iconic brick online in the first MMOG – massively-multiplayer online game – based on the LEGO play experience. LEGO Universe will enable fans of all ages to build, create, interact with friends, battle, and explore LEGO worlds – past, present and future.
LEGO Universe is a family-friendly online game, appropriate for players aged eight and above. The LEGO brick lies at the center of the experience, and several levels of building are available, from simple gameplay-oriented challenges all the way up to sophisticated brick-by-brick design. With a creative and building focus, LEGO Universe invites players to flex their imaginations with the brick in a vibrant online world.
