Capcom announces spring launch dates. Sort of.

Capcom is going to have a busy spring, with four major releases slated to hit the shelves: Monster Hunter Tri, Lost Planet 2, Final Fight: Double Impact and Super Street Fighter 4. Today, they announced release timings, which is kind of like release dates, except without actual dates in some cases.
The Monster Hunter series makes the leap from handheld to console with the Wii version arriving in April, and appears it will be packaged with the sweet Wii Classic Controller Pro. A monster hit in Japan, Monster Hunter Tri carries a lot of promise. Not only does it have many new features for the franchise, it also offers to be the that mythical third party title that becomes a smash hit on the Wii, and may even become the best online experience available on the system. It arrives in April.
With Super Street Fighter 4, frankly I have no idea how to approach this title. What is it exactly? A new title? An expansion pack? An improved version of a game that’s not that old already? I don’t know, but I have a feeling Street Fighter fans will still plunk down their money (and more than a few will complain about it) to get a handful of new characters, new Ultra Combos, the return of bonus stages and tweaked online and offline gameplay. Super Street Fighter 4 will hit the XBox 360 and PS3 on April 27 in North America and April 30 for Europe.

The first Lost Planet was a multi-million seller, but probably didn’t get the attention it deserved (on the XBox anyway, where it was vastly superior to the later PS3 port). The upcoming sequel brings more high-intensity shooter action, more huge and deadly creatures. Online play will also feature four player team modes, complete with new teamwork tactics, plus the new weapons, vital suits and more. Lost Planet 2 arrives on May 18 in both North America and Europe.
Finally, Final Fight: Double Impact revives two of its Capcom’s older franchises, and brings them to the PSN and XBox Live. Final Fight is classic side scrolling punch-and-kick-and-walk arcade action, while Magic Sword is a fantasy themed action game. This double pack is given a more nebulous release date of Spring.
With the recently released Dark Void, these impending games, plus other titles like Dead Rising 2 in the not too distant future, it’s definitely looking like early 2010 will be a busy time for Capcom.
