Brutal Legend – Overhyped a wee bit?
Am I alone in thinking that Brutal Legend can never ever hope to live up to the hype that the gaming media has laid out for it? There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t see some story about Brutal Legend. About the celebrity voices, about the graphics, about beloved-by-gaming-websites Tim Schafer, about whatever. It seems like the hype balloon is inflating and inflating and inflating and….
Yes, it has a cool premise, and yes, it has Jack Black and the RAWK, and yes it has beloved-by-gaming-websites Tim Schafer (who has gone over a decade without having a hit game. In a genre that many of today’s gamers don’t even know existed. Just saying.), but it also seems have an inordinately high level of hype for any game that does have Grand Theft Auto or Halo in the title.
Brutal Legend may be good. In fact, it may be great. But I have a feeling that when we see the sum of the parts, it could end up being the Phantom Menace, and we’ll be trying to was the Jar Jar taste out of our mouths all over again.
